MYFORD INCLUDED IN CBEE 2011 HONOR ROLL
|
|
California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) has recognized Myford Elementary to the 2011 Honor Roll,
for demonstrating consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and
reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. The Honor Roll is the premier school recognition program that uses only
academic achievement data showing improved academic growth over time and a closing of the achievement gap.
"These schools are the bright spots of excellence in efforts to
raise student academic achievement and close persistent achievement gaps," said Jim Lanich, president of CBEE. "By highlighting
them, recognizing their achievement and giving them a voice we hope other schools can learn from them and replicate
their proven practices throughout the state." Please visit

STAR TESTING SCHEDULES POSTED
The California Standards Tests assess students mastery of the State Content Standards in the areas of English Language Arts,
Math, and Science. The testing results are compiled and schools are given an API (Academic Performance Index) based on those
results. It is extremely important that we have 100% participation, so we need your help in ensuring that your children come
to school on the days that they will be tested. Students should also be well rested and have eaten a healthy breakfast to start
their day. If your child is ill during testing, please call to inform the office, and your student will be given an opportunity
to make-up the test that he/she missed if timing allows. See this letter for
schedules

As we begin to implement our TUSD 21st Century Classroom Project, we want your voices to
be part of the process, and this fair will afford you an opportunity to share your ideas with us.
You will be able to provide feedback which will give us insight into which technology you would like
to see in our classrooms. It will also provide us
valuable insight into the technology initiatives that have the greatest support, and will guide our implementation
strategy.
The fair is scheduled from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on the following days:

The Tustin Unified School District is restoring two furlough days on Friday, Feb. 17, and Friday, May 25, pending ratification by
the employee associations. Both dates will be student instructional days and work/paid days for TUSD employees.
The two furlough days are being reinstated due to one-time money being given to the District from the federal government through
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and Education Jobs Bill funds. ARRA is an economic stimulus package enacted by
Congress and signed into law by the president in February 2009 to save and create jobs, and provide temporary relief to education,
health, energy and other programs.
The District and schools are notifying parents about the two restored furlough days so they can plan accordingly to have their
children in school on Feb. 17 and May 25.
The revised calendars are posted on the MYFORD as well as on the TUSD websites.

MYFORD RECEIVES CITY OF IRVINE GRANT TO SCREEN 5TH GRADERS FOR TYPE II DIABETES

Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) has been granted funding by the City of Irvine Educational Partnership Fund to provide
health services to three TUSD schools that are located in Irvine. The grant is dedicated to improve health services at
Beckman High School, Myford Elementary School and Orchard Hills School.
The major focus of the school health services is to identify at-risk students who have Body Mass Index (BMI) at or > 85th
percentile in 5th graders and presence of acanthosis nigricans among 10th graders. The program goals for the school nurse
thus include early identification, referral, and training. The BMI is determined by the student's height and weight. These
measurements will be performed along with the scheduled vision and hearing screening. Based on the identified at-risk
students, the school nurse will be providing assistance in accessing medical care, insurance, and referrals. In addition,
the school nurse will provide training on nutrition and fitness through the "5-2-1 Almost None" program to students.
This funding opportunity will assist the TUSD by supporting the children, youth, and families of Irvine by receiving research
based information to assist them in making decisions to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is TUSD's vision to
develop these schools as a model for achieving overall health and wellness for the TUSD.
